Found this. Even some of the so called Hifi journalists don't get it, but at least the good ones do.

Feel free to chip in. Good to see tha ADM9.1 get a positive mention

That seemed familiar!

Well done extenso - phone for free lunch and discount!

And you mentioned the astonishing clarity that neither ATC nor Meridian manage, which is key to the benefit of the active system.

Just as you cannot make a good photo from a bad one with Photoshop, only improve it, so it is with Active speakers. The drive units must satisfy certain parameters and the electronics must not be used to to alter/improve them.

Since I am in Oslo, the free lunch may be postponed for a while, but I am thinking about buying the 9.1 sub, so a discount may come in handy, Ash! Do you have subs in stock again, by the way?

Re: The not active 'active' AktiMate!

Yes everything in stock at the moment, but about to run out of Rosewood again and getting low on Black again.

But the price of shipping 31 kilos on a pallet to Oslo doesn't leave much room for a discount!

Would it be okay if I packed a Burger King Whopper with the shipment?

Irresistible...

Even without a discount, I think ordering from the web store is a much better deal than from the Norwegian distributor. A shame, really. Would like to support them, but the wallet decides.

Don't forget the healthy Norwegian VAT etc, so email me for help.

I've just tried to post on the AVguide forum and got spammed immediately, presumably for providing a link to my blog.
I wonder how many realise just how free of all the censorship HDD is compared to commercial sites with an agenda. WHF is the same. No links allowed.

So painful. And then right after the general pain, some needles. It never ends.

Anyway ... I am unable to post to that thread, anything I write they flag
as spam. I have no idea why that's happening. Maybe they have locked it?

I intended to post this ...

This is an issue of confusing terminology, not semantics.
Line-level active loudspeakers are where the real sonic benefit can happen.
Placing an amp in a speaker box, along with a passive crossover, is a convenience.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

There are systems with an active crossover between the subwoofer and mid,
but with a passive crossover between mid/tweeter. Example: NaO loudspeakers.
And the amps are not in the speaker boxes. So are these active, or passive, or both? Both, obviously.

Maybe they should be called half-active? Or only a third active,
because the amps are not built-in? And if the amps were built in,
and all the crossovers made passive ... would they be passive-actives-kinda-sorta?
The terminology leaves a lot to be desired, is often used inaccurately, and
when taken to it's logical conclusion, isn't.
