Topic: FreeSat on PC

Hi Guys,
I have a 3 or 4 year old MM PC with a vacant PCI slot (note, NOT PCIe). I have just upgraded to Win7 Home Premium and everything seems to be working well (As an aside, I think my FLAC files played through foobar actually sound better than they did with Vista, but that's another story). I think I read somewhere that Win7 is capable of displaying satellite TV, even the HD variant, and I have a 90cm dish focussed on Eurosat.
Can any one point me in the direction of a PCI card that will decode Freesat HDTV, preferably one that costs a little less than the Humax box that does the same job. Second hand would be considered if it is working well and the price is right.
Thanks for any advice.
Dave.

Cheers,
DaveK

Re: FreeSat on PC

Sat cards are a real mess.

Try asking here

http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php

or even on the techies forum here

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/

When my son takes his AV junk out of the flat I am going to buy a PVR from Richer Sounds.

I have a sat dish with two outputs, but I ill just stick to Freeview for now - so no HD.

The PVR and the Squeezebox will both feed my DAC. Separate, but simple.

Let me know if anything interesting turns up.

Re: FreeSat on PC

You sure the 4000 card wont work with Winodws 7?

See

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compat … ;os=32-bit

I have had the 3000 working in Vista - a while ago and it was shaky.

Windows Media Centre has problems with Sat TV, I think, and I don't think is any better with OSX

Re: FreeSat on PC

If you haven't bought a satellite card yet may I recommend the SkyStar HD 2 http://www.technisat.com/indexd606.html … n,76-15023

TechniSat  has been making satellite PC cards a long time ago and it's by far the best you can get for your money. The card is W7 compatible, comes with HD compatible software to view channels and is also compatible with a long range of third party software like ProgDVB http://www.progdvb.com/ Cards can also be used for satellite internet access.

It supports diseqc commands for motorised dishes and a common interface can also be connected to it.

You can grab a second hand one on eBay or a brand new for around £70

Hi Guys,
Sorry but I've not visited here for a while. Thanks to excellent customer service from TBS I now have my 8920 card working well on both DVBlaze and Win Media Centre (Win7), with the exception that I cannot get any sound on any programme on either platform. I suspect that this is a PC problem rather than any software problem because I am 'feeding' my TV/monitor with a 1080i signal via component leads. The picture is very good but no sound, but sound is fine when the TV/monitor is used in normal TV mode. I have got phono i/c between PC line out and TV line in but no sound. I guess that I need to dig into the system settings and try changing things. According to Device Manager all sound and video items are working fine, with correct drivers and Enabled.
Ain't computers fun??

Re: FreeSat on PC

If you could find it second-hand, I'd strongly recommend Digital Everywhere's FloppyDTV-S2. It has a sensitive tuner, gives a pretty fast zap speed, and has a very good quality picture.
