phase issue?
I think you are overestimating the demand for new tweeters.

I think SBs minimum order is 500 pairs.

Rolo - Cadenza's probably need 104ab crossovers although I haven' tried it. 12" stands help too...

Hope Ash will let me chip in as a total outsider where ADM's/DM's are concerned...

Much of this is a HOBBY thing and those of us who tinker and 'upgrade' in various ways, tend to magnify the smallest differences out of all proportion. I bet the original ADM9's still sound as fine as they were reported to be ten years ago, but each mod and 'upgrade' may well be an evolutionary thing, rather than a significant alteration. Maybe the Satori's are a larger difference than before, but keep it in perspective chaps...

I'm saying the above, coming from the real dark ages where turning a single fuse round in a turntable power supply was claimed to make a sonic change, this in addition to turning the mat one way and then another and the drive belt inside out and upside down (that should give an indication what turntable I and others were using to do all these things). I had the wind totally blown out of my sails when I heard a cheaper deck hailing from Robin Hood country that comprehensively out-performed this other model in all the #musical# as well as 'objective' ways and with absolutely none of the bullsh*t too...

Sorry if the above is drifting or not appropriate. All the different tweeters will have subtly different sensitivities too I suspect and in the lower kHz region, this will also be audible. As I'm now older and with iffy hearing at the best of times, I can assure all of you that anything that improves *intelligibility* and 'naturalness' of speech in the first instance, is an important upgrade step, even if it was very good before..

Dave I had 3 different tweeters in my ADM9s over he course of 10 years, the original ones were definitely a little bright and harsh, the Scanspeaks were smoother but just a little dull and fuzzy, the last SB tweeters were clean and clear and noticeably better than the 2 earlier ones and I couldn't fault them.

After I got used to my ADM40s, I had a brief listen to my ADM9Ts and immediately noticed a slight harshness that I'd previously been oblivious to.

I don't exaggerate, I try very hard to explain precisely the improvements we make and their magnitude.

Were you to compare ADM9s with DM10s most would b very surprised at how big the improvements we've made over the years are. The DM5s are a lot better than Original ADM9and the 10s amongst the best at any price. They're actually quite incredible. For example Tommy Tan has friends with $100,000 systems that aren't as good and Martin Hill has been touring the world demonstrating to the highest of high end agents and dealerships and finding the same. It's a big difference and everyone notices.

Despite all this, all sort of opinions appear on here from people with limited experience and mostly of very dated legacy gear or stuff that was past it's sell by date donkeys years ago.

Brits deny progress and try desperately to minimise perceived improvements to protect their faith in whatever it is they worship. AVI is different and not tolerant of all this tripe

Me and Arthur did A/B between ADM9 and DM10 using analog switching.

It wasn't night and day by any stretch of the imagination, but i could detect subtle changes.

I'm sure my review is knocking about somewhere.

Bully for you, but wrong.

We are on the fourth redesign of bass driver and tweeter, we've lowered the crossover frequency from 3.4kHz to 2.2kHz, we've changed from fourth to eight order filters and we've lowered bass from an optimistic -6dB @ 60Hz, to a conservative -6dB @ 50Hz.

DM10s are completely new and different speakers as was the case with 9RS and DM5s better original ADM9s. Three redesigns have been radical.

We worked extremely hard for years to offer meaningful and provable advances in sound quality, so I don't take kindly to that work being belittled by a turntable and valve amp enthusiast. Arthur I have great respect for Chris, but I don't trust your judgement. I'm sorry.

Remember my speakers are the last ADM9RS with the SB tweeter.

I've got 9RS and DM10, the difference is obvious (bass and better sound stage) but not so much to make the 9RS obsolete, I still enjoy them possibly more so than the 10s at the moment because of their location. I have never heard the earlier models but am assuming Ash is comparing the very first 9s with the latest 10s, in which case the difference may well be huge?

Your post said ADM9 and that difference is huge. I go with Bill on 9RS to 10.

I think the differences model to successive model can obviously only be slight (especially when the original was pretty good to start with), the differences between 3-4 generations should be obvious?

I remember the day I set up my 9RS (I actually remember sitting in Ash's living room with my better half commenting that these sound good!) I was grinning like a cheshire cat for weeks because they were so much better than anything I was used to. The 10s when they came along, whilst being better, didn't knock my socks off in the same way because they weren't such a dramatic improvement as the bar was now set a lot higher, but they did do what was claimed by adding more bass and better imaging.

That's why I'm not likely to change tweeters, I'm very happy as is. I'd buy 10s again btw but only in piano black!
