What am I reading now?

So what do you think of the books ? Obviously you must have found something of worth if you worked your way through all 250 volumes ! I have been a fan since 2007 and awaited each new book with anticipation , however , as many people think , Lee Childs seems to be going through the motions with his later efforts . As for the film with Tom Cruise ....mmmm.

I've enjoyed them, although some were better reads than others. I am presently freezing my balls off in South Dakota and waiting for this sodding hitman to turn up and try and take the old lady out.

At last finished the final book in Terry Brooks' DARK LEGACY OF SHANNARA. I love all the Shannara stories but this was not the strongest.
I believe his upcoming trilogy is something like THE FALL OF SHANNARA.

PHILL Pullman The Book of Dust is coming out soon (follow up to His Dark Materials)

I have just ordered a collection of HP Lovecraft stories & Vol 1 of CLOCKWORK PLANET manga.

Johnny Cash - The Life by Robert Hilburn. One of the better bios I've read, full of intricate details regarding all the people around Cash, which was a who's who of American music but still reads like a good story rather than a list of facts

I've only just been able to finish this (due to overworking!) Wow! If you like biographies and have even a passing interest in johnny cash, this is a must read - the last few years centering on his failing health and the American albums makes for an incredible story, I can't understand why a follow up to the 'Walk the line' film hasn't been made as the years following on from where that ended are just as interesting. Highly recommended

Just received 30th Anniversary edition of ALIENS original comic book series.

I think it's set after the ALIENS movie but before Alien 3 was written so it'll be good to see what the alternative could have been.

Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. The audiobook version, translated by Bill Johnston. This is a long, complex exploration of communication with an alien entity. It has been turned into a love story by others, but that was not Lem’s intention. It is not an easy read or listen but quite extraordinary in its detailed development of the story. Some of the science is way off target. A library of books? Log tables? But that is not really relevant. If you wish to ponder on the nature of communication or just marvel at the scope of the imagination behind this tome, then give it a try. It needs patience though. Being incapacitated with a heavy cold gave me time to work through it. I must admit I slept through some of it, but not enough to lose the story line.

Extraordinary but hardly light entertainment.
