Please Say Hello

I've heard the 8" version of those Mackie speakers once. Good bass and dynamics. I remember thinking that I could quite happily live with a pair of them at home.

The bass on these is excellent. A bit sensitive to room placement though, perhaps due to the rear firing woofer, but set up correctly they are brilliant.

Welcome acebass hopefully you will be able to hear some avi's at some stage.

Hi Acebass. My sister has some large Mackies in her large hallway and loves them.

Hi :-)

Bought some used ADM 9.1 a month ago. Hooked them up to my tv with toslink.
Built a Raspberry Pi with an added toslink output and Volumio installed for playing my webradios and ripped flacs.
No NAS, but a linux "server", which is an Intel NUC with "containers", also serving as a NAS.
I am very exited about the sound quality, but I will have to work on extended bass in the future.

I'm located in Denmark, educated in audio/video repair and later electronics construction. Since the late '90'es I've been working with computers.

Still trying to find out what the "T" tweak is about, and I hope this forum will educate and entertain me :-)

Best regards

Welcome to the forum. Smile

The T mod was done by reversing the phase of the tweeter which makes the ADM9T sound slightly better than the original ADM9. They do benefit from a subwoofer too. The AVI 10" subwoofer is best if you can afford it otherwise the BK Gemini II also works well and is much cheaper.

So the T-mod is not for my 9.1's?  Yes I surely would like the AVI sub. If it is anything like the ADM's then I would trust it to deliver a nice precise sound. I'm planning to move out of my apartment and into a house. At that time I will purchase a sub, preferably the AVI, but the BK could be an option. Thanks :-)

The T-mod is for 9.1s but might have already been done. If you cannot get the information from the previous owner you will need to remove one of the back plates, as this is where Ash recommended swapping over the spade connectors. But first, someone needs to remind us which way is original and which way is post mod. I doubt I still have the instructions Ash sent me.
Then you ask why I don't live here, Honey, I gotta think you're really weird.

Yes the T mod is for the 9.1's (sorry, there have been so many variations of the ADM9s that it's easy to lose track).

I'll leave the details of how the mod is done to someone else as I've never done it myself.

Hi chaps and chappettes,

Originally from UK (Carlisle) but now in Melbourne - always wanted a AVI lab S21 amp "growing up" in my late 20s, just picked one up at the weekend -couple of nervous hours replacing a couple of blown fuses that were not sitting in correctly..But the little blue light of success came on.

I love this thing already - I could become an AVI fan pretty quick. Never heard details in music before, so clean. I almost bought the matching CD player.
Other "oldish" stuff Arcam 300, Marantz 7200 amp, Talk electronics 1 CD with a cambridge cxu and some Quad 21L series speakers, perspective turntable.
Tested a couple of amps and they were quite disappointing compared to the AVI.

Looking for some hifi advice from the learned and some recommendations, maybe a better interconnect (old QED qnex) or if anyone has the matching CD could be very nice too.

Would I convert one day to active?
maybe.

thanks!
James

James welcome to the forum, I'm glad your so happy with your amp. I hope it gives you loads of musical enjoyment.
Active really is a step up in quality you should at least hear some time.
